June 2010

Not a happy Fathers Day in Caerwent   20th March 2010

The mid summer Caerwent was bathed in glorious sunshine this Fathers day. Unfortunaly the results wern't to our clubs favor. Andy Ducroq was back after all of his recent problems. His day was cut short into stage one when bizarly his gear stick snapped from its mountings. All manor of head scratching could not get him back in the rally.

Also intending to start the rally was Leon Morgan but engine problems subsequently put an end to that.

Better luck next time guys.

May 2010

Tears and Joy On The Welsh   2nd May 2010

We had two club members out on the Tour in May. Paul Wakely was co-driving for Bob Fowden and ended up finishing THIRD OVERALL!!! A big welll done to them. Also out were Leon Morgan who unfortunatly had to retire with clutch problems.

Up until that point Leon was doing really well. Watch out for the over exhuberant handbrake turn on the video footage below. Leon is on at about a 1:00 in.

Also out on the event were friends of the club Darren and Sue Underwood. They were drving their amazing Vauxhall 'Bowyer' Nova. Pushing out around 220 bhp. Below are two videos showing one of the mornings stages. They were cruely disqualified after finishing a provisional 10th overall.

March 2010

Fun in the sun at Caerwent   31st March 2010

As we said earlier in the month we had a number of crews out at the Tour of Caerwent on the 28th March. Colin Price and Philip Cook entered in their Darrian T9, Leon Morgan was partnered by non club memeber Richard Suter in Leon Vauxhall Corsa Sport and Andrew Watts and Christopher Willis were in their Peugeot 205 Gti. Unfortunatly we had a late withdrawl with Andy Ducroq and Paul Griffiths having to pull their entry due persistent gearbox issues.

We're delighted to say that all three of the crews that entered finished, with particular joy coming to Andrew and Chris as this was the first event that they had managed to complete. Overall Colin and Phil finished 39th overall and 7th in class, Leon and Richard finished 42nd overall and 8th in class and Andrew and Chris finished 47th overall and 7th in class. Congratulations to all of our crews.

Particular credit should go to the event organisers and overall winner Simon Mauger for a really enjoyable day of motorsport.

Some photos of the event are below. Credit to EDP Photo www.edpphoto.com.

Bullish at the Bulldog   30th March 2010

Congratulations to Alun Cook who co-drove to 3rd in class at the Bulldog Rally in the Historic Class. Alun was competing alongside Jeremy Easson in his Ford Capri RS3100. Also out on the Bulldog were Mark Glennerster who was with Alex Allingham on the Bulldog and they won the National Rally, so a big congratulations to them. Also out were Nige Gardner who was with Saemus O'connell and they finished 7th in their class in the Historic Rally category. Paul Wakely was with Callum Black and finished 2nd overall in the Challenge Rally. Massive congratulations to all of our club memebers, some cracking results!

Mixed fortunes for the Tour of Epynt    14th March 2010

We had two club members out for the Tour of Epynt on Sunday. Nigel Gardner who was co-driving for George Mackey in the Mitsubishi Evo 6 finished the event 8th overall and 3rd in class. Well done guys. Also representing the club was Paul Griffiths who was the co-driver for Gwilym Owen in his Talbot Sunbeam. This was Pauls first Epynt adventure as a co-driver and after a promising start on the first two stages by stage 3 the Epynt yumps and crests took its tole on Pauls stomach. This caused the guys to retire from the event.

Here are a few photos of the guys from the weekend.

Women in Motorsport gather at Silverstone   6th March 2010

Television presenter Louise Goodman joined some of the leading names in women’s motor sport and their cars at Silverstone on Monday to celebrate their participation in motor sport for International Women’s Day. Motor sport is one of the few sporting activities in which men and women compete alongside each other on an equal footing, yet as they make up only 8% of registered licence holders, women are hugely under-represented among motor sport drivers.

There are, nonetheless, an estimated 50,000 women actively involved in British motor sport, organising events, running clubs and associations, timekeeping, marshalling and fulfilling a host of other support roles without which the sport itself could not continue. To celebrate their importance to motor sport, more than 50 female competitors, marshals, officials and volunteers gathered at Silverstone, home of British motor sport and the 2010 Santander Formula 1 British Grand Prix, to support the Motor Sports Association’s Women in Motorsport Group. Among the attendees was Go Motorsport ambassador and ITV’s British Touring Car Championship presenter Louise Goodman. Also present was reigning Ginetta Junior Champion and 2009 BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year nominee Sarah Moore, the first female driver ever to win a major British motor racing championship.

February 2010

More of us out and about   25th February 2010

The Rali Cwm Gwendraith was the first event in a long time for one of our newest members. Leon Morgan co-driven by Paul Griffiths entered the Pembrey event starting at Car 68. A positive start with only a few teething problems and some good stage times proved too good to be true. Retirement on the penultiment stage with sticky brakes was to end Leon's rally. All in all a great day had by all an I am sure Leon will agree that he had a great Skid!

Some photos from the event can be seen below.

Also in February club member Mark Glennerster who currently co-drives for Alex Allingham finished 13th Overall and 5th in class on the Sunseeker Rally. Mark sent in a couple of photos from the event which can be seen below. Mark informs us that he is competing on the MSA ANCRO Welsh National Champioships this year. Their next event is the Bulldog and then the Pirelli Rally.

 January 2010

  A new year and a new start for 2010   31st February 2010

With our brand new website up and running I thought it best to let all of our followers know what our various members have been up to at the begining of this year. There has been plenty to talk about lately on a Monday night with four of our members travelling over to the Brean Leisure Park for the K&R Mitsubishi stages Rally. Paul Griffiths and Andy Ducroq brought the power of their Vauxhal Nova and Andrew Watts and Christopher Willis started towards the back of the pack in their Peugeot 205 Gti. Unfortunatly Andy and Paul retired on SS3 with a gearbox failure. Video footage from SS2 can be seen below.

Doing a little better and making it to the second day Andrew and Chris eventually retired after the Peugeot proved problematic all weekend. Eventually resulting in the car refusing to start and going OTL. Video footage of their Brean adventure courtesy of 4SportVideo can be viewed below.
